Veganism is much more than what you eat, it’s a lifestyle. It may sound very cliche but it’s very true. According to The Vegan Society, the number of vegans in the UK has increased by 40% over the last year and Google searches for ‘Vegan Beauty’ have been on an upward trajectory since 2012 with no signs of slowing down. The approach has also become more holistic; it’s not just about what we’re eating, but also what we’re putting onto our skins.
Vegan beauty has come a long way and is now more accessible than ever as more and more brands begin to cater to this growing market. Vegan beauty has never looked or performed better! It’s never been easier to make the switch, simply look out for the ‘Vegan’ certification that confirms products and all their ingredients have not been tested on animals and are free from all kinds of animal by-products. Even if you’re not ready or prepared to make the full switch to leading a Vegan lifestyle, here is a list of vegan-friendly beauty staples you can easily incorporate into your beauty routine.
1. Tropic Skincare Lip Stain
This lip stain is a good if not a better alternative to the many lip products on the market that use a number of animal products such as beeswax and carmine. The incredibly luscious and lightweight formula of this Tropic lip stain makes it great to use as a cheek stain too. It’s long-wearing, with great colour payoff and water permeability and currently available in two shades: a gorgeous bold red and bright, fun pink. What more do you need in a lip product?
2. KVD Good Apple Skin Perfecting Foundation
There was a reason why this foundation went viral on TikTok, and I can confirm it lives up to the hype! Buildable coverage, absolutely flawless and comfortable on the skin, you’ll soon be singing its praises. Available in an impressive 40 shades, pick a foundation shade, a concealer shade and even a contour shade, truly a versatile product and 100% vegan.
3. Clean Reserve Fragrances
You wouldn’t think that your fragrances were made using any animal products but among many perfumes, ambergris (deprived from whale intestines) is used as a fixative. Despair not, as Clean Reserve comes through on so many levels. Not only do they deliver on the most insanely gorgeous scents, but they’re all vegan-friendly. From warm and rich oud scents to fresh light floral notes, there’s something for everyone.
4. Nails Inc. Nail Polishes
Think twice about your nail products, a lot of the opalescent pigments found in nail polish come from crustaceans. Try Nail Inc.’s Plant Power and NailKale collections. All the nail polishes in these two ranges are cruelty-free and created with vegans in mind using natural and non-animal derived ingredients. Plus, the ranges boast an impressive colour selection, something for every mood with no compromise on quality.
5. Sunday Riley Skincare
The world of skincare is inundated with animal-derived ingredients. Think key ingredients such as glycerin, collagen and retinol. All of them are derived from animals and then there are the by-products such as honey, beeswax and lanolin, just to name a few. Sunday Riley features an impressive vegan-friendly skincare line, including their CEO Glow face oil, Good Genes Glycolic Acid Treatment and Luna Sleep Night Oil. It’s no easy task but Sunday Riley is proof that a vegan-friendly skincare range can be done, and done well!
