A special series on finding a bae, we hear from our resident dating Muslimah on the sorts of guys she comes across. Overly Honest Osman, Computer said no Cassim, Fibbing Faz, Disappearing Dawood, spray it Sameer, Not Looking for Marriage Nasir. Last time we heard about wealthy Waqas, this week we hear from our resident dating Muslimah about Double Standards Deelan.
Dear Double Standards Deelan,
You seemed a little over eager to get to know me from the moment your mother showed you a picture of me on Facebook. I have to admit I was already a little irritated at that, but then I thought maybe its romantic, love at first sight and all. We got along so well, we had a similar sense of humour, and taste in films. During the run up to the wedding, you started dropping unnerving passive aggressive hints about hijab and covering without having an outright conversation about it. You seemed absolutely fine with my dress sense when we were hanging out, in fact, you thought my skirts and tank tops were ‘cute.’ I didn’t appreciate how I had to shop for a whole new ‘modest’ wardrobe after marriage, to impress your friends, and family making me despise it more. If you knew this would transpire, why go for me based on how I look, to begin with. Let’s not get started on the way YOU dress online posting pictures half dressed on holiday, why the double standard? Glad this marriage didn’t last.
