On Saturday, June 30th, Muslim women from all over the US attended Miss Muslimah Pageant USA’s Second Annual pageant. Contestants compete for the Miss Muslimah 2018 title, which comes with an awful lot of perks.
Miss Muslimah USA is expected to answer a question, “how would you use your title to change the stereotype views Muslim women face in the world every day?” And be able to stand out and wow the judges with a five-minute speech to present in the fifth round.
Registering for the event itself is a mere $24, attendees must range from the ages 17-30 to register. Contestants registered by email including their name, age, height, nationality, occupation, city/state they are from, and a picture of themselves. They are asked to compete in 5 categories.
Made to arrive 3 days prior to the pageant for rehearsals, the contestants failure to attend will lead to being immediately disqualified (scary!). Pageant participants are expected to come prepared. They must be teamed with their own abayah, burkini, and modest occasion dress. They are also expected to have already practised their speech, and talent.
The winning Muslimah will get a 1-year-modelling contract with Umma Models, and a trip to the UK for a photo shoot with them. A trip to Dubai in 2020, and a cash prize.
