1) Melania Trump weighs in on Immigration

What happened?

The first lady, Melania trump made her stance on immigration known recently, after recent reports of child separation as a result of immigration policy emerged.

“Mrs. Trump hates to see children separated from their families and hopes both sides of the aisle can finally come together to achieve successful immigration reform,” her communications director, Stephanie Grisham, told CNN on Sunday. “She believes we need to be a country that follows all laws, but also a country that governs with heart.”

The Trump administration policy charges every adult who is caught crossing the border illegally with federal crimes.  This will occur instead of referring to those with children to immigration courts, the way administrations did before. The government is charging parents in the criminal justice system,  therefore children are separated from them, this is happening without a clear procedure, aside from hotlines the parents can call to try to track their children down.

The former first lady Laura Bush compares the facilities, “to internment camps used for prisoners of war in World War II.”
