Ahed Tamimi Jailed for 8 months

Ahed Tamimi, the Palestinian teenager named the ‘rosa parks of Palestine’, who was arrested in December last year, for slapping an Israeli soldier, has been jailed for 8 months. The 17-year-old teenager was said to have been defending little children from harm, as Israeli forces endeavored to use her home as a base to rid of the children who were playing on the land nearby. Tamimi’s Israeli Lawyer, Gaby Lasky said Tamimi agreed to a plea deal to reduce the sentence, as prosecutors would have given her a far more serious sentence, of a number of years for different charges. Tamimi’s mother was also arrested and charged at the sight for filming at the scene. Tamimi has also been fined with an equivalent of 1,800 dollars.

The 15th Anniversary of the invasion of Iraq

The 15 year anniversary of the Iraq war was commemorated on Tuesday March 20th. The war which started in 2003 was documented globally. Years of conflict that ensued, lead to the death of 4,000 Americans and over 100,000 Iraqis. The US military using drone strikes and operation missions, as opposed to sending in troops on the ground lead to complete destruction of the infrastructure of Iraq.

Maryland school shooting left two students injured, gunman dead

Two students were badly injured on Tuesday, March 20th at Great Mills high school in Maryland after being shot in the hallway. The gunman died shortly after the school’s resource officer fired at him. The gunman, who was later identified as 17-year-old Austin Wyatt Rollins shot at a 16-year-old female student, and a 14-year-old male student. Both were taken to hospital where the 16-year-old was treated for serious life-threatening injuries,  the 14-year-old student is in a stable condition.

Whatsapp Co-Founder Tweeted ‘delete Facebook’

Social media went into a frenzy this week after reports arose of Cambridge Analytica using Facebooks’ user information. A trend urging Facebook users to boycott the platform, using the hashtag #DeleteFacebook #BoycottFacebook went viral. In the midst of users across platforms urging others to boycott, an unsuspecting voice emerged, Whatsapps co-founder Brian Acton who left the company three years after Facebook bought Whatsapp in 2017 for 19bn, tweeted “It is time #DeleteFacebook”.
