Last week Twitter reacted to the news that Jamida Teacher, the 34-year-old state secretary of the Quran Sunnath Society led prayers of a congregation which included men. Whilst some have praised her and the move calling it ‘progress’ others are unsure if it is even permissible, many have referenced Amina Wadud who has also led prayers some time ago and drawn comparison. Whatever the ruling or stance no woman should be sent death threats, Jamida has been receiving threats of beheading and earlier this year there was an attempted attack at her home. She explains that…
“My mission is to remove gender discrimination and regressive practices of our community in the name of religion. Be it the triple talaq, child marriage, conversions or misogyny, I want to fight against them all in every way I can.”
Amaliah visited a female-only mosque, here’s what we thought
What are the social implications of mosques not having a womens section
The problem with our mosques is you
This is not a matter of equality, it is a matter of religious jurisprudence. The Friday Jumu'ah prayer is not valid if led by a woman, just as a man is not allowed to wear a Hijab. It's not an issue of equality, it's an issue of religious rules. https://t.co/HQ2oN8b8f0

A female Imam from Kerala is facing beheading threats and fatwas for leading Islamic prayers in a mosque in Kerala but nobody is finding it unconstitutional or undemocratic.
Why do liberals hate Muslim women so much?#AntiWomenMaulana

Here is some information compiled by Imam Zaid on women leading prayer, with sources. Overwhelming consensus is that it is not permissible, with a minority opinion that it is ok if confined to the house, the woman is more knowledgeable & leads from behindhttps://t.co/opeY35x29D

Many will justify this but this is outright Bid’ah. Women can only lead female only prayers. https://t.co/FPqWR8i35a
