For someone who has suffered from acne, scarring and general blemishes on my face, I need foundation, and a high coverage one to complete my look. In foundations I tend to look for shine control, full coverage and a consistency that’s neither too thick nor thin. These are my top foundations, shades and a general review on the current bottles sitting on the shelf.

Coverage: Full coverage foundation

I love this foundation. It gives me a glowing look, with full coverage, you literally have a creamy, porcelain finish, to your skin. This foundation will not transfer, does not melt and literally is liquid gold. It withstands heat, humidity, water, oil and sweat. It’s light enough to wear everyday, but gives an ultimate coverage. This morning, Huda Kattan compared this foundation and her own Faux Filter foundation, and whilst the Huda Beauty has more shades across the spectrum of colours, the Maybelline is cheaper and has way better coverage!

Coverage: Medium/Full coverage foundation
My shade: Amaretti / 310G
As a Huda-holic, I was super excited to try this foundation! It’s a good coverage, but comes at the expense of being quite thick in consistency. You literally need less than three drops to cover your entire face, so in terms of value for money, this foundation will last forever. I find that I sweat through this, in the Winter months, only because of the consistency. When trying this, in Selfridges, the first shade the make up artist tried on me was really wrong, and ended up making my skin look grey – please don’t order this foundation online until you’ve tried it. Carry blotting paper, but this one is a winner!

Coverage: Medium (buildable) coverage foundation
My shade: NC37
The first time I was matched in MAC, it was wrong, like literally about a million shades off! I found NC37 and took away a sample from Selfridges and saw how amazing this shade was. Unlike Faux Filter, the MAC Studio Fix liquid is thinner and more buildable, without looking grey. I think this foundation is amazing paired with the Pro Longwear concealer, (I usually use NC35). The MAC Studio Fix is great as a base, for a bold lip or popping highlighter. It’s a go-to ESSENTIAL for any make up bag.

I’d say I’m a massive Rihanna fan – I literally know every single song, off every album backwards. I was so disappointed with this foundation, however. Instead of flocking to Harvey Nichols, I was in Paris around the time of the launch, and I popped into a smaller Sephora, opposite the Galerie Lafayette . We were headed to the Champs Elysees one later that day, but I knew it would be too manic to try anything. I was initially quite happy, but I think that was just the bad store lighting which was too bright, and hence gave me a false impression of the foundation. I think it’s not suited for the full coverage I wanted; and it dries matte, almost like a watery paint. It is very pigmented which is great but is not consistent to apply on skin with different skin tones. I was super disappointed and have resorted to mixing this foundation with other ones to use the bottle. With an amazing 40 shades that keep selling out, I’m sure this foundation is great for some, but it didn’t work for my skin and my purpose of wearing foundation.

Coverage: Medium-Full coverage foundation
My shade: 7.5
I literally fell in love with this foundation, at how smooth and silky it was, even when swatching it on my hand. The beautiful creamy texture of this foundation, makes it light enough for one application and very few touch ups in the rest of the day. This foundation is slightly more pricy so I wouldn’t want to waste it on everyday use, but it is gentle enough to do so. Use this foundation for a pore-less finish and you will fall in love. The finish is beautifully dewy and the matte doesn’t look patchy or break down in the day.

I bought this as a bougie treat for myself, but this amazing foundation can give you perfect complexion correction. This foundation doesn’t crack or crease – and requires limited touch ups. Once applied, the foundation melts into your skin beautifully and controls excessive shine. Like the Armani, it leaves an ultimate luminous matte finish. The blurring powder incorporated into this foundation is excellent for blurring out the blemishes left from acne or other scarring. The foundation feels really natural and doesn’t really feel heavy, like some of the other full coverage foundatiosn feel.
