Recently, Dubai hosted it’s first ever Modest Fashion weekend, amassing a great amount of attention. However, it faced a lot of backlash because of the lack of diverse representation within the show. In response to this, Najwa the founder of Female Muslim Creatives started the hashtag #Blackmuslimahexcellence to celebrate and support the talent of black Muslim women, and combat anti-blackness. She asked people to share their favourite black Muslim bloggers, and in under 48 hours, the movement has taken off on Instagram and Twitter, with over 900 posts under the hashtag on Instagram.
