7 years ago Joycelyn and Rachael embarked on Afrocenchix, a hair care range for afro hair! With a £100, they bought enough materials to be able to sell at a community fair in Neasden. Joycelyn with a degree in Sociology and Rachael with a degree in Law, neither set out to start a business, but in 2010 the duo won an award for ‘Ethical and Sustainable Business’ from the University of Birmingham and also gained investment.
To date, Afrocenchix products have made their way to 18 countries including Germany, Dubai, Nigeria, the Republic of Mauritius, India and Singapore.
This summer Afrocenchix will be the first product range for afro hair to launch in Wholefoods. They have signed a contract to supply all 9 UK stores with Afrocenchix products. Wholefoods said they have been searching for years for quality products for afro hair.
“We’re thrilled that the beauty industry is now catering more for women of colour and we’re ecstatic to be at the leading edge of this change.”
