Muslim Mental Health: The Services and Organisations You Can Contact

by in Culture & Lifestyle on 22nd January, 2025

The topics of mental health and Islamic Psychology are spoken about now more than ever before. The stigma around mental health discussion is decreasing and as a Muslim community, our knowledge and understanding of mental health issues is continually improving. However, knowing where to turn to for help and support can be challenging. There are a range of faith-based services available that may be unheard of.

According to a study at Cardiff University, evidence suggests that some mental health problems, such as depression, affect British Muslims more than other faith communities. Muslims in Britain are under-referred to therapy services for mental health problems, and when Muslims do access mental health services, their rates of improvement are lower.

Given this landscape, there is a significant need in the Muslim community for more information about Muslim mental health support services. Sometimes we are not qualified or able to give our loved ones the support they need but being able to signpost someone can be super helpful. The Lantern Initiative has researched and recommended a range of services below.
